In all the places I’ve camped, Bear River has, by far, the best view of the stars. They are breathtaking! I would say this is a good place to camp if you are okay with noise – if you’re looking for a quiet campground, I don’t think this is it. It is a secluded campground, but seems to be a popular hangout for highschool or college age type parties, with pretty loud music being played. Even with the noise, I’ve gone there about 4 times the past 6 years because it’s a great little spot close to other day adventures. It must be a good spot for finding gold because there’s usually been at least one camper who has a gold mining type operation there, with a sluice box and dredging equipment.

I can get some gold in practically every pan full at bear river. The trick is to dig down deep and get to the good stuff…. It’s a lot of work but that’s why they call it gold mining 🙂 I will agree with the above poster that bear river campground gets a rowdy bunch of campers at times. If you want peace and quiet I’d recommend going somewhere else, but if you are like me and looking for gold dust, this is a great spot to go especially during spring.
