Model: Red Canyon
Type: 8 person tent
Size: 17-Foot by 10-Foot
The Coleman Red Canyon Tent is a very large dome tent that sleeps up to 8 people. It measures 17 by 10 feet and has a center height of 72 inches providing plenty of room for most people to stand up and easily change clothing. It has the ability to separate into up to three different rooms using the divider inserts that come with the package. Kids and especially teenagers really love having their own area of the tent and this tent makes it easy to accomplish.
One of the great things about the Red Canyon tent is its shock-corded poles which go together easily to make pitching the tent a relatively simple affair. One thing to note is it can be difficult to get the rain fly on by yourself. However, for two people once you know the process it is easy. You may need to read over the instruction manual once to get the hang of it, however after that pitching the tent should be a snap. The instructions are sewn right onto the storage bag so you won’t have to worry about misplacing them. The poles are also color coded to make things easier to assemble. There’s also separate storage bags for the stakes and the poles to keep everything organized.
The tent is well designed with Coleman’s exclusive Weathertec System that is designed to protect you against moisture and rain. The seams are protected and the floor seams are inverted to help maximize water resistance by hiding the needle holes which can cause leakage to occur. I do recommend getting a seam sealer to help protect the seams from leaking especially if you will be expecting wet weather.
The Red Canyon tent additionally has weather resistant fabric, and other features include zipper protection with a built-in zipper cuff, and a sturdy wind resistant frame that uses guyout triangles and a waterproof floor material. Due to this tents high profile it doesn’t handle extremely windy condition that well. While the tent says it can sleep up to 8 people, the number will be about half that amount if you decide to use twin air mattresses. If you get hot inside you can adjust the cool air port to get the air circulation to exactly how you want it.
In all the Coleman Red Canyon tent is a great bargain for most types of summer condition camping. It’s massive and makes a great family tent and is durable and attractive looking. It’s also one of the most popular family tents currently on the market. The only thing you might be worried about is finding a camping spot large enough to accommodate it’s large size.

Model: Eureka Spitfire Tent Type: 1 person model Brand: Eureka
The Eureka Spitfire tent is built extremely lightweight which makes it ideal for the backpacker or hiking camper. Don’t let the appearance of the Eureka Spitfire tent put you off, it’s built for functionality and won’t win any awards for its beauty. With that said you do get a high quality tent that weighs 2 pounds and 12oz making it extremely lightweight for your backpacking travel.
The tent features a side entry and the inside is considerably roomy with 3 feet and 4 inches of center headroom. One of the really cool things about this tent is the ability to take off the rain fly and expose the mesh bug net for awesome stargazing at night. The rainfly material itself is constructed of 75 denier Storm Shield polyester and it is durable and holds up well under continual usage. The floor is made of 75 denier nylon taffeta material, and the walls are constructed of 70 denier nylon. When pitched the tent measures a total of (W x H x D) 26 inches by 42 inches by 108 inches. There’s a total of 18 square footage for the floor area.
The frame construction of the shelter is an aluminum pole frame design that uses nine millimeter DAC Featherlight 7000 series poles. The tent has a single side entry door with inside storage pocket and full front to back mesh windows. The tent is rated a three season tent and if you intend to use it in rainy weather you may want to consider a tent seam sealer to ensure the tent seams are waterproof. After a moist night out this tent can attract slight condensation on the fly that has a tendency to drip inside. Pulling the rainfly as taut as possible helps to eliminate this problem.
This is one of the most popular backpacking tents on the market. It is lightweight and easy to set up and performs well in most conditions and is a great addition to any backpackers equipment arsenal.
Here’s some of the best features of the Eureka Spitfire Tent

When packed it measures five-by-twenty-two-inches
One person tent designed for three season use
Has a detachable rainfly and full mesh panels

Lightweight sleeping bags are a must for backpack camping. When you are looking to cut weight from your backpack it usually breaks down to eliminating weight from one of the big three heavies. They are your tent, backpack or sleeping bag. While carrying a few extra pounds in your pack for a mile or two might be acceptable you really begin to feel each extra ouce over a day long trek. For that reason alone it’s a good idea to buy a light weight sleeping bag that is warm enough for the area you are camping in, and durable enough to hold up under rugged use.
You can find light weight, or ultralight sleeping bags weighing as little as one pound. You’ll find that most bags of this weight are rated to 40 or 50 degrees Fahrenheit which is not enough for most alpine camping. You can find many models to choose from in the 3 pound range that are rated to just above freezing levels. With the addition of a stuff sack it can add an additional couple of ounce to the total. Buying a sleeping bag stuff sack isn’t a requirement, however it is helpful if you don’t want to store your bag inside your backpack, or want to help keep it dry during rainy weather.
Some of the best lightweight sleeping bags are made of down material which does an amazing job of keeping you warm. I believe down sleeping bags are the warmest, and most lightweight type of bag you can find. The down material itself is not actually the feathers but the fluffy under-plumage of ducks or geese. Since it is down and not feathers there is not prickly parts to make you uncomfortable, just soft fluffiness that really keeps you warm. I’ve used an ultra light down bag to keep me warm to just above freezing.
Down bags do require a little more care than conventional synthetic material bags. They tend to take a long time to dry out if they get damp. you may often want to hang them out to dry after a damp night. Since down collect moisture it’s a good idea to let them air out before packing them away. This can be done while you make and eat breakfast and pack up for the days hike.
Another choice for lightweight sleeping bags is synthetic material. They are usually made of a polyester type material that comes very close to being as effective as down but sacrifices the lifespan of a quality down bag. Synthetic bags usually only last approximately half to a third as long as comparable down bags. they are more bulky, and less comfortable than down bags but are usually much more inexpensive. Some other good things about synthetic bags are they are much quicker drying than down and they protect much better from rain than down bags.
As mentioned above you can find down and synthetic bags with similar warmth-to-weight ratio. The pluses with down bags are: More comfort, extra warmth, best lightweight, and better compressibility. With synthetic bags you get” More inexpensive, quicker drying, less care required, better in rainy weather. You’ll find that lightweight sleeping bags do require more care overall, as they are more fragile and made with lighter materials. However, if you take care of your bag it will last you many years of use.

The Coleman Fairmont Purple Sleeping Bag is a warm weather bag designed for temperatures as low as 50 degrees. This sleeping bag is an attractive purple color that’s a favorite of girls for sleepovers or summer camping trips. The sleeping bag is constructed with three pounds of ThermoTech insulation which is appropriate for most seasonal summer camping at lower elevations where the nighttime low temperature stays above 50 degrees fahrenheit.
The Fairmont sleeping bag can comfortably accommodate someone up to 5′ feet and 11″ inches tall. In total the bag measures 33″ inches wide and 75″ long. The bags cover is made of a polyester material and inside you’ll find a polyester flannel liner. Some people have claimed that the texture of the inner liner is not the most comfy-feeling. The Seam Grip Tent Seam Sealer can waterproof the stitching on your tent to help ensure it is leak free in case of rainy weather while camping. This tent sealer has been approved by the American Alpine Institute and can successfully seal out rainwater as well as repair patches and holes in outdoor items. It can be used to seal rain wear, footwear, clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, and tents.
Seamgrip comes in an 8 oz tube and has powerful bonding properties that can seal or coat practically any type of porous material you want it to. It works well on fabrics, cordura, nylon and polyester type materials. Just about any normal camping type canvas or fabric will work with Seam Grip. In addition to sealing seams it could be used to waterproof the bottom of an item like a backpack to help create an effective moisture shield. Another useful application is to add a sticky strip to an item like an air mattress to help it stay in place on an incline. Since Seam Grip is quite tacky it does a great job holding things in place.
One tube of this polyurethane composition sealer goes a long way. It offers abrasion resistant properties and can be used to adhere fabrics together. When applying the solution you’ll want to be careful not to get any of the stuff on your hands or under your fingernails because it is extremely difficult to get off. It leaves a sticky residue and smells similar to contact cement. when applying it can be a big mess if you’re not careful, so I recommend wearing disposable gloves and sealing the tube with plastic wrap in between uses. If you need to remove it before it dries you can use something like WD40 to help get it off. Overall, if you’re looking for a product that works great to seal your tent or repair punctures, then Seam Grip is right for you.
